SHATTERBOX THEATRE SEASON 2026

SILENT SKY

BY LAUREN GUNDERSON

Shatterbox Theatre presents Silent Sky, a moving and inspiring play based on the true story of pioneering astronomer Henrietta Leavitt. Set in the early 1900s at the Harvard College Observatory, the play follows Henrietta and a group of women “computers” whose groundbreaking work measuring starlight forever changed our understanding of the universe and expanded the field of modern astronomy.

As Henrietta carefully charts the stars, she also navigates friendship, ambition, and the pull between personal life and scientific discovery. Her work leads to one of the most important breakthroughs in astronomy—unlocking how scientists measure the vast distances between galaxies and deepening humanity’s understanding of space, time, and our place in the cosmos.

Blending science, history, and heartfelt storytelling, Silent Sky is a powerful and accessible piece of live theatre that celebrates curiosity, perseverance, and the human desire to explore something greater than ourselves. This intimate and uplifting production is ideal for audiences interested in theatre in Prince Edward County, science-inspired plays, historical drama, and true stories that resonate today.

Presented by Shatterbox Theatre in beautiful Prince Edward County, this production offers a unique live theatre experience in Ontario, perfect for locals and visitors alike. Whether you’re searching for things to do in Prince Edward County, live performances in Ontario, or meaningful cultural events, Silent Sky is a must-see theatrical event this season.

NEXT TO NORMAL

Book and Lyrics by Brian Yorkey | Music by Tom Kitt

Experience the powerful, Tony Award- and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical Next to Normal, a deeply moving story about family, mental health, and resilience.

Set in a suburban home, the show follows Diana Goodman, a mother living with Bipolar disorder, and her family as they navigate the complexities of love, loss, and healing. As each member struggles to find balance in a world that feels anything but “normal,” the story unfolds with raw honesty, compassion, and surprising moments of humour.

Featuring a contemporary rock score and emotionally charged performances, Next to Normal explores themes of mental illness, grief, and connection in a way that resonates long after the final note.

This production is staged at The CAPE—the same venue that hosted Shatterbox Theatre’s sold-out run of Cabaret—bringing audiences back to an intimate and unforgettable performance space.

Presented by Shatterbox Theatre Company in Prince Edward County, this compelling live musical theatre experience is perfect for audiences seeking bold storytelling, award-winning theatre, and meaningful conversations around mental health.
