“Part Judy Blume, part Rambo, this darkly comic coming-of-age story for complicated times is for any young woman who has ever been told that she is “too much” or that what she fears is illegitimate, or that what she has to say is less important than keeping the peace.”
Sarah, Jo, and Maureen are just your average eighth-grade girls… They go to school, participate in Girl Guides, and spend their free time preparing for the apocalypse. But their usual plans are put on hold when the girls become enthralled by the decade-old mystery of a local commune that vanished into thin air.
With the help of their friend Robbie and out-of-towner Vic, the girls investigate the disappearance of the Shelton Commune, which leads them into the hidden lair of a creepy local legend. But what they discover there might be more than they bargained for.
As the team scavenges for clues, they grapple with the notion of fending for themselves in a post-collapse society, and whether those in charge are really looking out for their best interests.
Created by Canadian playwright Michaela Jeffery, Without Rule of Law is a contemporary feminist tale about girlhood and the uncertainty of growing up in a world that rejects you.
